Experimental Research on the Cutting of Metal Materials by Electrical Discharge Machining with Contact Breaking with Metal Band as Transfer Object
2020
The scientific paper presents practical research carried out by a mixed team of Romanian researchers from universities and the business environment. The research consists in applying the process of cutting metallic materials through electrical discharge machining with contact breaking using a metal band as a transfer object. The research was implemented with the help of a specially designed installation in the laboratory and subsequently all the necessary steps were taken to obtain the patent for it. Various metallic materials were cut using this process, but first of all, high alloy steels. In the global research conducted by the authors, active experimental programs and classic experiment…
Properties Augmentation of Cast Hypereutectic Al–Si Alloy Through Friction Stir Processing
2022
AbstractThe present endeavour is to augment mechanical attributes via friction stir processing (FSP) in hypereutectic aluminium–silicon castings by the means of microstructural modifications and defects reduction. Wherein, the study proceeds with mainly two approaches namely, alteration in tool revolution (TR) and the number of FSP passes. The prepared specimens were evaluated investigating volume fraction of porosities, microstructural characterizations and microhardness. Therefrom, the specimen with highest number of passes delivered most uniform properties resulting from the reduction in casting porosities and refined silicon particle uniform distribution throughout friction stir process…
Archaeometrical study of paleometallurgical materials from the archaeological site “Cerro de las Balsas — Chinchorro” (La Albufereta, Alacant, Spain)
2008
An Iberian archaeological site located in the east of Spain is one of the most important cupellation centers found in the 4th century b.c. Different metallurgical materials were found in the archaeological site as minerals, cast slags, forged slags, metallic lead, cupella fragments and bronzes. Also was found reverbs remains used for cupper-based materials and cupellation procedure, and hearth forge remains for obtained iron material. The recuperated samples were studied by comparing samples of the same type of material by macroanalysis and microanalysis. The microanalysis and quantitation of the different archaeological materials was carried out by SEM/EDX. The information provides about t…

Passivation-Induced Physicochemical Alterations of the Native Surface Oxide Film on 316L Austenitic Stainless Steel
2019
Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy, X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy, in situ Photo-Current Spectroscopy and electrochemical analysis were combined to characterize the physicochemical alterations induced by electrochemical passivation of the surface oxide film providing corrosion resistance to 316L stainless steel. The as-prepared surface is covered by a ~2 nm thick, mixed (Cr(III)-Fe(III)) and bi-layered hydroxylated oxide. The inner layer is highly enriched in Cr(III) and the outer layer less so. Molybdenum is concentrated, mostly as Mo(VI), in the outer layer. Nickel is only present at trace level. These inner and outer layers have band gap values of 3.0 and 2.6-2.7 eV, respe…
Experimental Research of the Formability of Lightweight Metallic Materials Used in Automotive Industry
2015
This paper aims to study the plastic deformation behaviour of lightweight metallic materials in order to reduce the total weight of the vehicles without affecting their performances. For the theoretical and experimental researches presented here, among these materials the AZ31B magnesium alloy has been chosen, a representative alloy for the magnesium-zinc-aluminium alloy system. The results of the theoretical researches, made on finite elements models, were validated by means of experimental researches consisting of tensile tests, forming limit curves determination tests and AZ31B magnesium alloy drawing, respectively.
Study of the Formability of Light Metallic Materials
2015
There is a continuing interest in using laminated materials for the production of lightweight parts, the resulting parts having the same functionality and even an increased stiffness and length of operation compared to conventional materials. The present paper aims to study the forming behavior of the laminated materials that requires the unfolding of tests to determine the tensile mechanical properties and the intrinsic properties, determining the forming limit curves by means of the Nakajima test and the analysis of the behavior at unconventional incremental forming.
Study of the Formability of Laminated Lightweight Metallic Materials
2017
The main objective of this work was to test the formability of laminated materials. Laminated materials are considered a good choice when parts with reduced weight are considered. Thus, a laminated material, aluminum - polypropylene - aluminum (Al-PP-Al), as sheet 1.2 mm and 1.4 mm thickness was used. Before processing the material by means of unconventional plastic deformation, its formability was determined by running the Nakajima test. After obtaining the forming limit curves, the material was machined by means of incremental forming.
Assessment of metallic materials required for shock stress protection
2017
Establishing which metallic materials are suitable to be used for the protection of operators and machinery, when subjected to stress impact in the drilling industry, for surface exploitation, mines and quarries, is a complex process. Due to the harsh operating conditions, a careful evaluation of the various materials used is of utmost importance. This paper addresses the issues relating to the methodology of determining the appropriate homogenous materials to be used, based on a correspondence between their characteristics and applications. Starting with a list of specific operating conditions, one has established a set of requirements and has assessed the market; the recommended materials…
Considerations on Cutting Regime Influence of NC Laser Cutting Machine Tool on Processed Surface Quality
2015
This paper presents the study of the influence of cutting parameters on surface quality in laser cutting of metallic materials. In this paper, it is shown which of the cutting parameters have the greatest influence on the quality of the processed surfaces by measuring various roughness parameters. After the experimental research was carried out a ranking of the factors of influence on the response functions was made, also graphs of dependency to various parameters of roughness were made.
